Pets for Seniors is an organization that matches cats and dogs from shelters and foster pet groups with senior citizens who might need a little help with the responsibilities of pet ownership. We were established in 1999. We are a 501(c)3 organization registered with the Illinois State Attorney General’s office.
If you are a senior citizen 60 years or older, and if you’d consider an older pet, we will:
* Offer a substantial discount on our senior animals for adoption
* Give you starter supplies (as donated supplies allow)
* Take care of the pet for free should you ever have to spend time in a hospital
* Send you our newsletter three times a year
* Take your pet back and if possible, find it another home if you can no longer care for it
An animal that would be eligible for the Pets for Seniors program would be a dog 7 years or older or a cat 5 years or older. (Keep in mind that small dogs can often live 15-17 years and cats 17-18 years or more).
We reserve the right to refuse help with any adoptions that we don’t approve of or feel are not compatible (such as a young, strong and unruly dog to a fragile elderly person).
Our Pets for Saving program is open to all ages.
Our membership is made up of adopting members, board members, supporters and volunteers.
We have a no-kill shelter where we foster cats and dogs that we have rescued from euthanasia at animal control facilities. We do not accept owner relinquished animals other than from our adopting members who can no longer care for their pet.
